where movement meets medicineJoin us for the FAMI Workshop—a world-renowned immersion course that brings the best of medical education to the movement world!
"A life changing experience that has already brought my Pilates practice to a new level. FAMI has given me X-ray vision." -- FAMI 2010 participant
about FAMI - Level TwoLearning anatomy is a life-long process. The FAMI Workshop begins the journey with a hands-on exploration of the human form and how it relates to fitness and movement. Students learn to speak the language of the body from anatomists, study 3-D specimens in Gross Anatomy labs, and hear first-hand how physicians and physical therapists treat the pathologies that commonly plague our musculoskeletal system.
Now, after much demand, we are excited to bring you the next layer of learning: FAMI - Level Two! Adding to the comprehensive x-ray vision gained in the FAMI Workshop, FAMI - Level Two hones in on injuries and programming for a specific region of the body. Distinguished FAMI anatomists and physicians set the stage with a review of the region’s anatomy and injuries, and FAMI physical therapists and movement experts follow with an in-depth exploration of biomechanics and programming for preventive and injury care.
Offered at Kinected, FAMI - Level Two provides fitness professionals with an immersive opportunity to apply the foundational tools gained in the FAMI Workshop to a practical, movement setting.
Designed for the experienced anatomy student who has successfully completed the FAMI Workshop, FAMI - Level Two courses focus on application of anatomy to movement settings. Each two-day course spotlights a specific area of the body and features injury and prevention programming from specific movement disciplines. View our course dates to learn about upcoming topics and programming focus.
Each two-day course includes the following core modules:
• Foundation lecture given by distinguished FAMI anatomists
• Biomechanics, posture, and palpation lab with FAMI physical therapists
• Preventive programming session with FAMI movement professionals
• Clinical perspective lecture with FAMI physicians
• Rehab perspective lectures & Injury Programming Sessions co-taught by FAMI PTs and movement professionals
Building upon the information gleaned in the FAMI Workshop, this foundation lecture sets the stage for the application of anatomy featured in the FAMI - Level Two course. Lead by a FAMI anatomist, this 75-minute discussion reviews fundamental anatomical concepts of the region in focus.
biomechanics, posture, and palpation lab
Lead by a FAMI physical therapist, these sessions take participants through an in-depth exploration of the anatomical region in focus. Participants will discuss essential principles of biomechanics, examine healthy and unhealthy postural tendencies, and gain hands-on insight through palpation of the region’s important landmarks.
preventive programming session
Sometimes the best medicine is as simple as an apple a day. Lead by a FAMI movement professional, this session explores programming for injury prevention, teaching participants specific exercises and progressions that encourage healthy biomechanics and posture of the body region in focus for all levels of clients.
clinical perspective lecture
These clinical perspective lectures build on the physician-lead lectures on injury and pathology taught during the FAMI Workshop. Taking the information to a deeper level, these 90-minute sessions hone in on common injuries and disease plaguing the anatomical region in focus, exploring pathology, treatment, and specific clinical cases. These lectures provide the clinical framework for understanding the Rehab Perspective lectures and Injury Programming sessions that follow.
rehab perspective lectures & injury programming sessions
Co-taught by a FAMI Physical Therapist and a FAMI movement professional, these sessions comprise the entire second day of the course. They provide an in-depth analysis of the rehabilitative management of specific injuries, as well as a significant repertoire of choreography and exercise progressions for injury maintenance and recovery. Taught in tandem fashion by two instructors, these sessions exemplify the dialogue between the medical and movement worlds that FAMI seeks to inspire--and that we hope, will continue to flourish in your own practices.
