General FAQs

Why should I come to kinected?

We believe movement should be a part of your daily routine. We believe you should know more about how your body works, and no matter what your baseline is, we’re here to help you move in a fun and more efficient way – functionally sound and injury free.

What should I expect from my first session?

We start with 90-minute BODY IQ assessment to learn the state of your body and the work it needs. Longer than the usual session, we will explore and experiment to reveal your strengths and uncover your weaknesses, crafting a strategy with a cocktail of methods and uniquely defined goals.

Which method is right for me?

Following your BODY IQ session, we will curate a tailored plan for your training. You’ll have options to move in a focused one-on-one setting, get inspired in group classes and challenge yourself by streaming at-home or on-the-road workouts. Usually a mash-up is best, and we know your body will change, so our methods are designed to mix and match according to what you need.

What if I only want to take group classes? Should I take a Body IQ session first?

Definitely. With many different types of classes to choose from, the BODY IQ session will allow us to direct you to classes with the max benefit for you. Trust us – it’ll do your body good.

Which starter package is right for me?

We recommend starting with the BODY IQ session, during which you can decide with your instructor which package fits you best.

Do you have dressing rooms?

Yes, we do! We have lockers, also, and locks can be borrowed for the day.

Do you have showers?

No, we do not, but we do have two restrooms.

How early do I need to arrive before my class or appointment?

We suggest 5-10 minutes, but you can get a head start on your paperwork here.

What do I wear?

Comfortable clothing that you can move in, workout and loungewear are both appropriate. You can wear socks or go barefoot, no shoes allowed.

What do I bring?

Yourself, a water bottle, and towel if needed.

Do you have mats?

Yes! We have mats you can use at the studio, just be sure to wipe them down after you use them, please!

What is GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS®?

GYROTONIC®
Developed by Juliu Horvath and performed on a unique, weighted-pulley machine, the method systematically moves the body through a series of circular motions, opening areas that are bound and tight. The mat component of the method, called GYROKINESIS®, incorporates similar principles, utilizing stools and floor work in a class setting.

GYROKINESIS®
Also developed by Juliu Horvath, GYROKINESIS® Methodology incorporates similar principles, but without the use of a weighted-pulley system. Instead, the GYROKINESIS® method is practiced in a class setting, using benches and floor work. Each class progresses through seven types of spinal motions: forward, backward, left side, right side, left twist, right twist and circular. Rhythmic movements, systematic progressions, and specialized breathing patterns keep your mind and muscles on their toes.

Private Session FAQs

What should I expect from my first session?

We start with a BODY IQ assessment to learn the state of your body and the work it needs. Longer than the usual session, we will explore and experiment to reveal your strengths and uncover your weaknesses, crafting a strategy with a cocktail of methods and uniquely defined goals.

Why should I take private sessions?

Our goal is to get you moving, efficiently and intelligently. In one-on-one sessions, we will execute a tailored plan for your training starting wherever you are at and mixing in methods as appropriate to challenge, strengthen and balance your bod. You can mix it up with group classes and challenge yourself by streaming at-home or on-the-road workouts, but we recommend starting with these focused sessions with our exceptional instructors.

Do you work with injuries?

Absolutely. We get that life moves you, and sometimes there are bumps in the road. We will modify methods as necessary, and if injuries persist, we’ll refer you to Kinected Functional Manual Therapy, our in-house team of superbly qualified physical therapists. They will work with you and your instructor to get you back to pain-free, full movement in no time.

Which instructor should I work with?

With our all-star staff, you can’t go wrong. Our expert and senior instructors have varied levels of experience, different backgrounds and training, but they all have one thing in common: a passion for movement, an extensive knowledge of anatomy and a desire to help you learn about your body so you can move wisely and feel brilliantly.

Functional Manual Therapy FAQs

Why should I book a Kinected Functional Manual Therapy session?

If you are experiencing pain or discomfort that is limiting your ability to move well, or it was recommended during your BODY IQ assessment, we advise seeing our über qualified in-house team of physical therapists.

I’m not sure if I need Functional Manual Therapy or a movement session. Which one do I do first?

We recommend a BODY IQ session, where your instructor can direct you toward the services that will serve your body best. Kinected Functional Manual Therapy (KFMT) also offers free 15-20 minute Physical Therapy consultations to anyone who is interested to know more about the Functional Manual Therapy® (FMT) approach or if you are wondering if Physical Therapy may be beneficial for you. Restrictions apply based on therapist availability and patient need, and are not meant to replace a full FMT assessment.

What should I expect from my Functional Manual Therapy session?

Your 60-minute session includes 1-on-1 assessment and hands-on treatment. Come a bit early to fill out your paperwork or arrive with it completed so you’ll have a full hour for the initial evaluation.

What should I bring to my Functional Manual Therapy session?

Please bring any x-rays, MRI, CT reports or other documentation pertinent to your current condition and Physical Therapy Prescription (if you have one). Wear loose-fitting clothing that allows for the areas of concern to be exposed – the better we can see and feel how your body moves, the better we can care for you and get to the root of what’s causing you pain.
If you know you cannot arrive early for your initial evaluation, please bring your completed paperwork ahead of time.

What are my rights and responsibilities as a KFMT patient?

Your Patient Rights and Responsibilities can be found here.

What types of injuries do you treat?

Visit our FMT page for a comprehensive list of what can be treated.

Do you accept insurance?

Kinected Functional Manual Therapy is an out-of-network provider for insurances that offer out-of-network services. This means you will pay for each visit, and then submit to your insurance for reimbursement. You may contact your insurance to find out if they provide out of network services. Each visit you will be given a superbill to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. We will gladly fill out any paperwork that your insurance requires be completed by the therapist.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please note that appointments that are a no-show or canceled less than 24 hours prior to the appointment time will be charged the full cost of the physical therapy session.

What is your COVID policy?

We require face coverings for all in-person KFMT services.

Proof of vaccination is no longer required.

If you cannot come in person or do not feel comfortable doing so, you can book PT appointments online via Telehealth.

See the full COVID policy here, CDC guidelines on isolation precautions here.

Do I need a doctor's note for PT?

No. According to New York State Law, you can be seen by a licensed physical therapist for 30 days or 10 visits before needing to consult with a doctor and obtain a prescription. Some insurances do require a Doctor’s prescription initially, so if you are submitting to your insurance for out-of-network benefits, please contact them to check if this is required.

How does the Injury Recovery program work?

You are thoroughly assessed at the beginning of KFMT treatment to look at what structural, strength, and postural issues exist. Once assessed, KFMT staff will set up a plan for you which may include starting with Kinected instructors right away, or gradually transitioning to working with instructors as your injury improves. During the transition, we will communicate regularly with your instructor so we work toward the same goals and can share findings from each of session so that all treatment is informed and effective.
